The 45th summit of the G7 summit 2019 group countries is taking place in France. India has been specially invited to this conference. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to France to attend the G7 summit 2019 on Sunday.
But what is this G7 and what are its member countries and what does it do?
What is G7?
The G7 is the world’s largest group of seven highly developed and advanced economies, which includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain and the United States. It is also called the Group of Seven. The group considers itself a “community of values”, a community that respects values. Freedom and protection of human rights, democracy and rule of law and prosperity and sustainable development are its main principles.
What do G7 countries do?
Initially, it was a group of six countries, whose first meeting was in 1975. In this meeting, possible solutions to the global economic crisis were considered. The following year Canada joined the group and thus became the G7. Ministers and bureaucrats of G7 summit 2019 countries meet every year to discuss matters of mutual interest. Each member country alternately presides over this group and hosts a two-day annual summit.
This process runs in a cycle. Energy policy, climate change, HIV-AIDS and global security are some of the topics which were discussed in previous summits. A notice is issued at the end of the summit, where the agreed points are mentioned. Those attending the conference include the heads of nations of the G7 summit 2019 countries, the European Commission and the chairman of the European Council. The chairman of the European Commission is Jean-Claude Yunker, who is not attending this conference due to health reasons.
The current chairman of the European Council is Donald Tusk, who is participating in this conference. Representatives of other countries and international organizations are also invited to attend the summit. This year Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited. This time the main topic of discussion at the summit is “fight against inequality”. Every year there are large-scale protests against the summit. Organizations ranging from environmental activists to voices against capitalism are involved in these protests. A large number of security forces are deployed to keep protesters away from the venue.
How effective is the G7 Summit?
The G7 summit 2019 is criticized as saying that it has never been an effective organization, although the group claims many successes, including the introduction of a global fund to fight AIDS, TB and malaria. The group claims that it has saved the lives of 27 million people since 2002. The group also claims that it has a role behind the implementation of the 2016 Paris Climate Accord, although the US has spoken out of its agreement.
Why is China not part of the G7 summit group?
China is the second-largest economy in the world, yet it is not part of this group. The reason for this is that the world’s largest population lives here and the per capita income of the property is much lower than the G7 group countries. In such a situation, China is not considered an advanced or developed economy, due to which it is not included in the group. Although China is part of the G-20 group, by joining this group, it is working on increasing the number of modern cities like Shanghai.
Was Russia ever involved in the G7 group members?
Russia also joined this group in the year 1998 and it went from G7 to G8. But in 2014, Russia was suspended from the group after taking Crimea from Ukraine. US President Donald Trump believes that Russia should rejoin the group “because Russia should be with us at the negotiating table.”
Challenges before the G7 Summit
There are also many disagreements between the G-7 group countries. US President Donald Trump had differences with other member states at the summit held in Canada last year. There were allegations of President Trump that other countries are imposing heavy import duties on America. He also had differences with member countries on the issue of the environment. The group is also criticized for the fact that it does not discuss the current global politics and economic issues. No countries in Africa, Latin America and the Southern Hemisphere are part of this group. This group is being challenged by fast-growing economies like India and Brazil which represent the G-20 group but are not part of the G-7. Some global economists say that some G-20 countries will leave behind some G-7 member countries by 2050.
India is not a member of G-7, yet why did PM Modi get invited on this big platform?
This time the G-7 conference is being held in the beautiful city of Biarritz on the coast of France. The President of France, Emanuel Macron, has specially invited those countries which have strong interference in world politics, besides the member countries in this time conference. The name of India is first in this list. Apart from India, Australia, Spain, South Africa have also been specially invited this time.
The G7 summit is the elite club of seven developed countries in the world. These countries determine the pace and pace of the world’s economy. G7 countries occupy 40 per cent of the world’s GDP. However, only 10 per cent of the population lives here. India is not a member of this VIP club. But the impact of India’s growing strength on the global stage is that India has been specially invited to this conference.
